Don’t forget to bring THESE with you

.

1 Comfortable Shoes

Summertime often means sandals, flip flops, and fashionable high heels… except in many places in Italy where you will come across cobblestones, uneven pavement, uphill and downhill streets,  and archaeological sites with dirt and stones.

In Italy, ditch the flip flops for the beach and wear comfortable foot supporting walking sandals or shoes that will protect your feet from injury or tripping.

2  Sun block, Sunglasses, Sunhat

The Mediterranean sun is strong in the summer, make sure you protect your skin, eyes, and head while sightseeing outdoors.

You can also also purchase these in Italy as they are widely available if you forget to bring yours or would like to do some shopping in Italy.

3 Bring something to cover your shoulders and knees inside churches.

If your wardrobe consists of sleeveless tops and shorts, dresses, or skirts that are above the knee, be sure to bring something with you that you can cover your shoulders and knees in event you wish to visit the amazing churches in Italy.

Many churches impose a modesty dress code that includes covering your shoulders and knees.

If you prefer to have flexibility and be spontaneous with your sightseeing destinations, bring something light with you that you can carry in your small day bag that not only you can use to cover up while visiting your favorite churches, but also to use in the evening when the temperature cools down and a shawl or a sleeved top will take away the chill.

4 Bring a Portable Water Bottle

It’s very hot in Italy in the summer, so it’s important to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Buying bottled water can cost 2 Euros or more at kiosk vendors near tourist attractions. At most cafes tourist markets, you find them at about 1 Euros each. At the local supermarket about 25 cents.

Even if you buy a pack of bottled water from a local market and keep them refrigerated in your room, you’d go through your first bottle of water by mid morning. You can either refill the same bottle of water throughout the day, or just bring a portable and refillable water bottle with you that you can reuse throughout your vacation.

Many fountains in large cities like Rome serve cold fresh natural drinking water, one of the best ways to quench your thirst in the Eternal City

You can also buy a large cold bottle of water from the market of cafe and use it to refill smaller bottles if you are traveling with family or friends.

5 A Back-up Piece of Luggage.

While many travelers travel light, when they arrive in Italy they find so many wonderful things to buy that their luggage suddenly cannot contain all their new purchases.  By bringing a light cloth duffel bag, you have enough space for your belongings and your new treasures.
