Beyond the Price Tag: Evaluating Value for Private Tours from Civitavecchia

When it comes to evaluating prices for private tours and transfers, it’s important to remember the age-old adage: quality comes at a price. While some tour providers may tempt you with exceptionally low prices, it’s essential to consider the underlying reasons behind those cheap rates. In most cases, you truly get what you pay for.

Beware of companies that advertise rock-bottom prices as their primary selling point. These providers often resort to cost-cutting measures that can compromise the quality and reliability of your experience.

They may use outdated or poorly maintained vehicles, skimp on insurance coverage, and employ less professional and experienced drivers who are willing to work for significantly lower wages. Additionally, they may lack a competent and efficient office staff to handle your inquiries and ensure smooth operations.

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for some tour and transfer providers in Italy to overbook their services, leading to last-minute cancellations and leaving travelers stranded without a planned tour. This kind of situation can be incredibly frustrating and ruin the expectations of cruisers who have limited time in port.

At RomeCabs, we prioritize the satisfaction and peace of mind of our guests. We understand that a reliable and enjoyable experience is worth the investment. That’s why we keep a fleet of well-maintained, fully insured vehicles and employ professional and experienced chauffeurs who are passionate about delivering exceptional service.

Our commitment to quality extends beyond our vehicles and drivers. We have a dedicated English-speaking office staff that ensures smooth communication, prompt responses to inquiries, and meticulous planning of your shore excursions from Civitavecchia. We believe in transparency and reliability, and we strive to exceed your expectations at every step.

When choosing a tour or transfer provider, it’s crucial to consider the overall value you’ll receive, rather than solely focusing on the initial price tag.

With RomeCabs, you can have peace of mind knowing that you’re investing in a reputable company that prioritizes your comfort, safety, and satisfaction. Don’t settle for subpar experiences that may end up costing you more in the long run. Choose quality and reliability with RomeCabs and ensure a memorable and worry-free excursion in Rome.

Professional and Knowledgeable Chauffeurs

Whether you wish to experience Rome in a day, or revel in the Italian countryside, our drivers take pride in creating memorable moments for their guests.

Convenience for tours from Civitavecchia Cruise Port

Consider the level of comfort and convenience provided by the tour company. Ensure that their vehicles are comfortable to enhance your journey, such as air conditioning, and comfortable seating.

Additionally, verify that the company offers convenient pickup and drop-off inside the port which is not accessible to just anyone. Stefano’s RomeCabs drivers and vehicles have the necessary licenses and security clearance to access Civitavecchia cruise port for convenient pick up and drop off on the pier next to your cruise ship.

Due to our professional licenses, our vehicles can also access the historical center of Rome to stop close to the attractions you visit to minimize walking distances.  Your personal driver will wait with the vehicle while you sightsee on foot away from the vehicle.

Please be mindful that in Rome’s historical center vehicles can only access attractions in accordance with local traffic regulations and security measures.  Many small towns and villages in Italy also have certain traffic restrictions and pedestrian-only areas.

Transparent Tour Prices and Inclusions

Evaluate the tour company’s pricing structure and ensure that it is transparent and comprehensive. Verify what is included in the tour package, such as fuel, tolls, parking fees, and any additional charges.

A reputable tour company will provide clear and upfront pricing, ensuring that you have a complete understanding of the costs involved.

Websites that don’t publish their prices may be an indication that their prices are subjective and not the same for everyone.

On Stefano’s RomeCabs website, we publish the prices of all our tours and transfers, as well as any additional costs for admission tickets, winery fees, or other additional related expenses.

10 Things You Didn’t Think of when booking Civitavecchia transfers

5 Jan

Buon giorno and welcome to Stefano’s RomeCabs, Rome’s leading company for private Civitavecchia Transfers, Shore Excursions from Civitavecchia, and other Italy top cruise ports.

We have provided transfers from Rome’s cruise port in Civitavecchia for more than 18 years and counting, serving tens of thousands of cruisers arriving in Italy either pre-cruise, post-cruise, or just for the day.

We compiled a list of 10 things you didn’t think of when booking Civitavecchia transfers based on our extensive experience providing port transfers, and from questions we’ve received from our cruising clients over the years.

Don’t worry,  if you book your Civitavecchia Transfer with RomeCabs and your reservation requires additional attention our expert staff will inform you in advance so your Civitavecchia Transfers will be perfect.  However, knowing these important things in advance simplifies your booking process, saves you time,  and is also valuable when booking port transfers in other Italian cities.

10 Things You Didn’t Think of when booking Civitavecchia transfers

1. TRANSFER VEHICLE SIZES

Italy Private Tours and Transfers_RomeCabs Rome Cabs
RomeCabs offers private Civitavecchia Transfers in Deluxe modern vehicles

Most vehicles for Rome Civitavecchia Port Transfers range from sedans, SUVs, and most common minivans of up to 8 passengers. Vehicles are generally provided based on the number of persons in your party and your total amount of luggage.

If you are traveling with family members or a group larger than 8 people, you will require 2 vehicles (or more vehicles depending on your group size).

Why can we only book a minivan of up to 8 passengers for Civitavecchia Transfers?

Private Driver vehicles are a maximum of 8 passengers because in Italy this is the largest size vehicle that can access the Civitavecchia Cruise Port and Rome’s city center.  Vehicles larger than 8 passengers fall under the “bus” category and are restricted from accessing the cruise port and city centers.

Therefore, to be able to provide our clients with Door-to-Door Service and Pick Up / Drop Off at the pier next to your cruise ship, all our vehicles for transfers and tours are a maximum of 8 passengers.

2. TRAVELING WITH A LOT OF LUGGAGE?

Private Civitavecchia Transfers in deluxe vehicles
Traveling with a lot of luggage?

Sedans are usually priced for 1-3 passengers and can accommodate approximately up to 2 standard check-in suitcases and up to 2-3 small carry-on in total.  If you are a party of 1-3 persons, consider in advance if your luggage would fit in a standard sedan trunk space.

If you are a party of 1 to 3 passengers with extra luggage that would not fit in a sedan trunk space,  make sure you inform the company so you will be upgraded to a minivan (and priced accordingly) so you and your luggage can be safely and comfortably accommodated.

You may also simply book for 4 passengers to be automatically provided a minivan with ample space for your luggage and lots of legroom for you!

A large minivan for 7-8 passengers can accommodate up to 7 standard check-in suitcases and up to 7 small carryons in total

If you are a group of up to 8 persons with a lot of luggage that exceeds the maximum luggage capacity,  you may require 2 vehicles to accommodate all passengers and their luggage safely.

If you are not sure your extra luggage will fit in 1 vehicle or may require a 2nd vehicle, please contact your transfer provider with the details of your luggage count and the number of passengers for more helpful assistance.

3. CIVITAVECCHIA PORT MEETING POINT

Civitavecchia Transfers Meeting Point on the pier
Meeting Point at Civitavecchia for Port Transfers to Rome

When you book a transfer from Civitavecchia to Rome or from Civitavecchia to Rome Airport (Fiumicino Airport), being able to easily meet your driver at the port is very important.

When you book our private Civitavecchia port transfers, your personal driver will meet you right on the pier next to your ship. You do NOT have to take any bus shuttles to exit the cruise port.

All drivers are required to stand in a designated area for Drivers (look for or ask for the Limo Driver area) and wait for their clients to disembark.

You can easily spot your driver holding a Sign with your name on the reservation.   Vehicles are parked nearby following the Port Authority regulations.

Be sure to retain the Contact Phone Number of your transfer company in case of an emergency such as disembarking early, delays in disembarkation, or if you can’t spot your driver.  Our phone number is always included in your Reservation Confirmation Email, be sure to keep it handy in case you require assistance.

 4. HOW FAR IS CIVITAVECCHIA FROM ROME / FIUMICINO AIRPORT?

Rome Transfers to Civitavecchia Cruise Port with RomeCabs
Civitavecchia Cruise Port

  • From CIVITAVECCHIA TO ROME TRANSFERS is approximately 90 minutes (1.5 hours) pending local traffic and road conditions
  • From CIVITAVECCHIA TO ROME AIRPORT (FIUMICINO AIRPORT) is approximately 60 minutes (1 hour) pending local traffic and road conditions

Please book your Civitavecchia transfer with this estimated travel time in mind, and allow some extra leeway in case you encounter unforeseen traffic delays along the way.

5. HOTEL CHOICES FOR DOOR TO DOOR SERVICE

Rome Civitavecchia Transfers
Door to Door Service with Stefano’s RomeCabs

If you will be staying in Rome pre-cruise or Post Cruise and require a Port Transfer between your Rome Hotel and Civitavecchia Port, please keep in mind when booking your hotel, B&B, or Apartment that many small streets and alleys in the historic center of Rome may be restricted to traffic or vehicle size, and your driver may not be able to stop in front of your accommodation.

In case your accommodation is located on a street or square with traffic restrictions, for hotel pickups (Rome to Civitavecchia Port Transfer) your driver will stop and park the vehicle as close as lawfully possible, and meet you at the front door of your accommodation address (or hotel lobby) on foot and accompany you with your luggage back to your parked vehicle.

Rome tours Civitavecchia Transfers
Rome city transfers to Civitavecchia

For hotel arrivals (Civitavecchia to Rome transfer), your driver will park as close to your accommodation as lawfully possible, and accompany you and your luggage on foot to the front door of your accommodation address.

Rome has many wonderful hotels and apartments on historical streets and squares and charming alleys, however, they were built centuries ago before vehicles were invented. There are also many important embassies throughout the historic center with very strict security restrictions that do not permit vehicles to park or be left unattended in their vicinity. To keep Rome safe, traffic laws are many and drivers must obey them.

If you require door-to-door service,  when selecting your accommodation, please check with your hotel or apartment host before booking to ensure that:

  • The Rome Hotel or Apartment address is located on a street or square without traffic restrictions
  • The Rome Hotel or appartment is on a street wide enough to accommodate large minivans
  • Vehicles can stop to load/unload passengers in front of the Hotel / Accommodation
  • Ensure your Hotel has porters or luggage assistants (or apartment renting hosts can help guests with luggage) in case you require additional luggage assistance than the driver can provide, such as if lawful parking is not close enough to your accommodation
  • If you are traveling with extra luggage, check with your hotel/apartment building if it has flights of stairs without elevators as this may be difficult with extra luggage.

6. CRUISING WITH CHILDREN?

Cruising with Children in Italy
Traveling with Children in Italy

In Italy children 8 years and younger must be secured in age-appropriate safety seats.  Children cannot be seated in other passengers’ laps inside moving vehicles.

If you are traveling with young children, please be sure to mention this important information when booking a transfer and request an age-appropriate Child Safety Car Seat (including the Age and Weight of the child)  if you will not be traveling with one.

7. GRATUITIES IN ITALY

Gratuity is not mandatory in Italy, it is always at the client’s discretion.

However, if you are pleased with the service received from your driver, 10% gratuity (or what you feel is fair)  is customary in Italy.

8. PRIVATE  CIVITAVECCHIA TRANSFERS vs SHARED SHUTTLES

There are Private Civitavecchia Port Transfers and Shuttle Port Transfers.

Private Civitavecchia transfers afford you more flexibility with scheduling your transfers (especially for transfers from the Airport to Civitavecchia if your flight or luggage are delayed), full control of your pick-up time, and predictability of travel time to your final destination.

Private Transfers offer also the special benefit of privacy inside your vehicle and safety when not sharing your small space with unknown strangers.

Many cruisers book privately Shared Shore Excursions from Civitavecchia (learn more about TOUR SHARING), but if you wish to share your private Civitavecchia Transfers it’s easy.  We included Civitavecchia Transfer Sharing information on our other blogs:

7 Things to know before booking Rome Airport Transfers

.

No matter where you travel in the world, if you fly into an airport you may require an Airport Transfer (unless you have family and friends to help).

Rome Sea Port Civitavecchia Transfers – RomeCabs

14 Mar Rome Sea Port of Civitavecchia - Port Transfers with RomeCabs

Buon giorno and welcome to Stefano’s RomeCabs, Rome’s leading company for private Rome Sea Port Civitavecchia Transfers as well as Cruise Port Tours.

In this travel blog we go over the 4 types of Rome Sea Port Civitavecchia Transfers, with tips and advice for each type of transfer for a seamless, efficient, and enjoyable transfer experience.

.

The 4 types of Rome Sea Port Civitavecchia Transfers are:
.
  1. Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to Rome Sea Port of Civitavecchia
  2. Rome Accommodation to Rome Sea Port of Civitavecchia
  3. Rome Sea Port of Civitavecchia  to Rome Accommodation
  4. Rome Sea Port of Civitavecchia  to Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

.
.

.
.

1  FCO / FIUMICINO AIRPORT TO SEA PORT OF CIVITAVECCHIA

.

From Fiumicino Airport you have 2 options going to Civitavecchia: Going directly to your cruise ship for same day departure, or going to a Hotel Accommodation in Civitavecchia prior to your cruise departure.
.

* TRAVEL TIME: From Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia travel time is about 1 hour.

.

  • Going to Civitavecchia Cruise Port

Simply book a transfer from FCO Airport to Civitavecchia and provide all your flight arrival details, and drop off cruise ship name.

Follow detailed instructions (and watch the VIDEO) on How to meet Driver at FCO Airport.

If you haven’t arrived at FCO Airport yet, watching the video will help you visually familiarize yourself with the area where your driver will be waiting for you.

.

  • Going to Hotel in the City of Civitavecchia

Booking a transfer from FCO Airport to a hotel in Civitavecchia is very easy: just book a regular transfer from FCO to Civitavecchia, and instead of the Drop Off Ship Name, please include your Drop Off Hotel Name and Address in Civitavecchia.

The price is the SAME whether you will be going to the cruise ship or a hotel in the city of Civitavecchia.

.
.

HELPFUL TIPS for Transfers from Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia:

..

Plan to book an Early Morning Flight Arrival at FCO Airport in order to allow you plenty of extra time in case you experience flight delays, or delays at the airport (in customs or baggage claims).

By booking your flight too close to the time your cruise ship departs, you risk missing your ship if you experience any unforeseen delays.

As there is quite a bit of walking from the baggage claims carousels where you collect your luggage to the Main Waiting Hall where you meet your driver, and then additional few minutes’ walking distance to the Designated Parking Area where your vehicle will be parked (as mandated by Airport Security), be sure to use the Luggage Trolleys available near the baggage carousels.

For travelers with mobility issues, be sure to request in advance via your Airline “Complimentary Wheelchair Assistance” so an airport staff member will meet you with a wheelchair when you deplane, and assist you all the way to the parked vehicle.

.

2  ROME HOTEL TO CIVITAVECCHIA CRUISE PORT

.

TRAVEL TIME: from Central Rome to Civitavecchia travel time is about 1.5 hours

RECOMMENDED PICK UP TIME from Rome hotel to Civitavecchia for cruise ships that depart at 5 PM: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
.
.

ENHANCE YOUR TRANSFER WITH A PRE CRUISE TOUR!

.
Don’t sit in your hotel all morning waiting for time to pass until your transfer to Civitavecchia when you can be enjoying more of Rome, or explore the magnificent Roman countryside on our Pre Cruise Tours of Pre Cruise tours of Rome or Roman Countryside.
.

Pre Cruise Tours of Rome and Roman Countryside are tailored to fit into the embarkation time of your cruise ship. It includes morning pick up from your hotel, tour by car in your private deluxe vehicle and personal English speaking Driver, and drop off right by your cruise ship in time for your embarkation.

4  CIVITAVECCHIA CRUISE PORT TO FCO / FIUMICINO AIRPORT

.

TRAVEL TIME: approximately 1 Hour.

Recommended safe flight departures is 11 AM the earliest so you have plenty of time in case your ship docks late or you experience unforeseen delays on your way to Fiumicino Airport.

Also be sure to secure early disembarkation with your cruise ship so you will be among the first and earliest to disembark so you can swiftly be on your way to the airport.

.

You may also create your own Privately Shared Civitavechia to FCO Airport Transfer with fellow cruisers also going to Fiumicino Airport or Fiumicino Hotel.

To avoid extra associated costs, be sure everyone sharing the transfer will be going to Fiumicino (NOT Rome which is about 1 hour away and would incur additional transfer fees from Fiumicino to Rome)

How to Be in Control of your SHARED CIVITAVECCHIA Transfers

2 Dec

Buon giorno and welcome to RomeCabs Travel Blog!

Sharing Transfers to and from Civitavecchia Cruise Port has become an option for many travelers to share costs. In this travel blog we show you How to be in Control of your Shared Civitavecchia Transfers with RomeCabs.

Unfortunately many generic shuttle services mean unpredictable pick up times, unpredictable wait times, unpredictable number of persons in the vehicle, unpredictable number of stops around Rome hotels or multiple cruise ships….it’s by and large an unpredictable experience.

If you are arriving at the Airport and experience delays in customs or baggage claims (which often happens at Rome’s airport!), your shuttle service may not wait for you – after all, they have other passengers sharing the same vehicle you were supposed to be on that don’t want to wait on you.

Many travelers would like the option of a cost saving shared transfer to and/or from Civitavecchia, but with the benefits of a private service:  predictable pick up time, no wait times, knowing in advance how many people will be in the vehicle, and not being crammed in with strangers.

How to Be in Control of your SHARED CIVITAVECCHIA Transfers

Imagine if YOU are in charge of who shares your vehicle.

Imagine if YOU are in charge of the total number of passengers in your vehicle for YOUR personal comfort and space.

Imagine if YOU scheduled the pick up time and knew when to expect your driver.

Imagine if YOU knew your driver’s route in advance.

Privately Shared Civitavecchia Transfers with RomeCabs

Privately Shared Civitavecchia Transfers with RomeCabs

All of the above are possible on your next Civitavecchia Transfer with RomeCabs, and it’s EASY!!

.
It’s important also to consider which transfers are best shared and which are best private.

Private transfers are best for Airport Arrivals.

It is difficult to organize a transfer with others to arrive at the airport at the same time (or close).  Add in situations like missed connections, flight delays, lost luggage, and you will realize a shared transfer is not the best option for arrival transfers.

The best Shared Transfers to and from Civitavecchia are:

Rome Hotel to Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia to Rome Hotel

Civitavecchia to Airport

HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR SHARED TRANSFER

By far the best way to organize your shared transfers is through Cruise Critic where you will find thousands of members, many who may also be cruising on your same ship!

Finding fellow cruise mates with similar itineraries is easy on a ship that accommodates thousands of cruisers.  If you’re not already a Cruise Critic member, this is a good time to sign up.

Once your travel plans are all set, place an ad on Cruise Critic Roll Call and invite other follow cruisers to share your specific transfers.

TIPS ON ORGANIZING YOUR SHARED CIVITAVECCHIA TRANSFERS

*  For Transfers between Rome hotels and Civitavecchia:

it’s important that all parties stay at centrally located hotels in Rome. Not only you save time while everyone is collected or dropped off at their respective hotels, but the fee for additional hotels are minimal when everyone’s hotels are centrally located.

* For Transfers from Civitavecchia to the Airport:

Make sure that everyone is flying out of the same airport (usually Fiumicino Airport, less likely from Ciampino Regional Airport).  Choose a pick up time at least 3 hours prior to the first flight departure so the party leaving first will arrive at the airport on time, and those flying out later have the option to wait at the airport as needed.

There is no extra fee for multiple terminal drop offs. Anyone staying at the Airport Hotel? No problem, that counts the same as going to the airport.

**  Do NOT organize shared transfers if some persons need to go to Rome and others to Fiumicino Airport.

Fiumicino Airport is about 40-60 minutes away from Rome, and this extra leg adds the equivalent of an additional airport transfer from the airport to Rome to drop off the rest of the party. It is not cost effective, and the party going to Rome will have to endure a 2 – 2.5 hour drive.

Organize shared transfers with everyone going TO, or leaving FROM the same cruise ship.

Because some ships may dock at different times, or experience delays, you don’t want your group split up – especially if you have to travel to the airport for a flight.

Keep in mind total number of passengers and luggage capacity:

The maximum capacity per vehicle is 8 passengers, and total of 7-8 checked in suitcases and 7-8 carry on cases. Please keep in mind the maximum luggage capacity if you wish to form a group of 8 to ensure everyone and their luggage can be safely accommodated inside the vehicle.

For optimal space, comfort and travel time, we suggest up to 6 persons staying at no more than 3 hotels.

Below are some helpful tips to make your email inquiry best understood, and the type of details you should provide in order to receive the most complete information possible.

..

MAKE YOUR EMAIL EASILY UNDERSTOOD

.

If you are inquiring about multiple services, it helps to keep your email inquiry as concise as possible and stick with outlining the most important details.

If you contact companies abroad, there is the high probability that you are dealing with locals from that country whose English is not their first language.  To be best understood, use simple and straightforward words (refraining from abbreviations or slang) may prevent misunderstandings or requests for clarification.

.

TRANSFER INQUIRIES

.

RomeCabs Civitavecchia Transfers

Stefano’s RomeCabs Civitavecchia Transfers

.

By offering the following simple basic details you will receive complete information, and expedite your inquiry as the company will not be required to follow up with questions necessary for them to provide information. You will save time of reducing unnecessary follow up emails that can take up to 24 hours between each response.
.

Your Transfer inquiry email should include the following
.

  •  Type of Transfer (Airport Transfer or Civitavecchia Transfer)
  •  Date and Time of service (because day time and night time rates may differ)
  •  Pick up Location and Drop off Location
  •  Number of Persons in your party
  •  Estimated amount of luggage (so a proper vehicle size would be quoted for you).

.

Any additional information would be helpful: Such as if traveling with young children that might require a child seat or booster seat, traveling with a wheelchair that may require extra space in the luggage compartment.

When contacting a company for tours,  to save time and not waste time,  please take a few minutes to read through the company’s website to familiarize yourself with the type of tours they offer to ensure they can meet your needs.

Are you looking for a walking tour? If yes, a private or a group tour?

Are you looking for a tour by car? If yes, a private or a shared tour?

You can find such basic information on just about any tour provider’s website so you know you are contacting the right company for your needs.

On Stefano’s RomeCabs website we provide a wealth of information from detailed transfer and tour descriptions, How To videos, links to purchase admission tickets, and more.  We created our website to be as informative as possible for our clients’ most common and important questions to be answered simply by reading our website.

By browsing through a company’s website you might find answers to questions you previously had, and get ideas for tours you may not have previously considered.  When you learn more about tours that interest you, you can zero in on more specific information you may need so you will be provided more detailed information.
.

Your Tour inquiry email should include the following:
.

  • Type of Tour you are interested in. You can mention the tours by name from the company’s website, or mention the sites, towns, regions you are interested in visiting.
  •  Your Pick up  & Drop Off Location (Are you interested in a Day tour starting from Rome or a Shore Excursion from Italy’s cruise ports, Pre-Cruise or Post-Cruise Tour)
  •  Date of Tour(s) to ensure the sites in your preferred tour will be open for visits on your tour day
  • Number of Persons in your party

.

Any additional information would be helpful: Such as if traveling with young children that might require a child seat or booster seat, if any members in your party have mobility issues that would prevent them from walking or standing too long.

1 Mar RomeCabs Civitavecchia Transfers

Buon giorno and welcome to Stefano’s RomeCabs, Rome’s leading company for private Airport Transfers, Civitavecchia Transfers, Day Tours and Shore Excursions.

We have written extensively on our travel blogs about transfers, offering tips and advice that came from years of experience and serving tens of thousands of travelers and cruisers in Rome.

Whether you are arriving in Rome on a land trip or to begin your cruise, likely you will arrive at Fiumicino Airport.  Fiumicino Airport is the largest international airport in the region, and it can be pretty chaotic.

Unlike many airports, the baggage claims area where you collect your luggage at FCO (Fiumicino) airport is security restricted – meaning nobody without a valid airline ticket or special security clearance can access that area.   Therefore,  everyone who is waiting for friends and loved ones to arrive via FCO – including private drivers, must wait in a designated area in the main waiting hall of the arrival terminal.
.

This helpful video shows you where your driver will meet you and also offers helpful information such as using luggage trolleys to easily carry your luggage out from the baggage claims, use the complimentary wheelchair service for those with mobility issues, and what to do in case your flight arrives ahead of schedule or if you experience delays.

It’s a MUST for any RomeCabs clients to watch prior to arriving at FCO Airport.

Traveling to Italy this summer? Don’t forget to bring THESE with you

3 Jun Summer in Rome with RomeCabs

Buon giorno and welcome to Stefano’s RomeCabs Transfer and Tour blog. Our mission is to help you turn our trip to Italy into a vacation of a lifetime with our private transfers, day tours and shore excursions to many of Italy’s top destinations.

Summer is by far the most popular time millions of people worldwide travel to Italy on their summer vacations. While many travelers prefer to travel light (less luggage), especially when summer clothes take up such little space, there are a few things that you should bring with.

.

Traveling to Italy this summer?
Don’t forget to bring THESE with you

.

1 Comfortable Shoes

Summertime often means sandals, flip flops, and fashionable high heels… except in many places in Italy where you will come across cobblestones, uneven pavement, uphill and downhill streets,  and archaeological sites with dirt and stones.

In Italy, ditch the flip flops for the beach and wear comfortable foot supporting walking sandals or shoes that will protect your feet from injury or tripping.

.

2  Sun block, Sunglasses, Sunhat

The Mediterranean sun is strong in the summer, make sure you protect your skin, eyes, and head while sightseeing outdoors.

You can also also purchase these in Italy as they are widely available if you forget to bring yours or would like to do some shopping in Italy.
.

3 Bring something to cover your shoulders and knees inside churches.

If your wardrobe consists of sleeveless tops and shorts, dresses, or skirts that are above the knee, be sure to bring something with you that you can cover your shoulders and knees in event you wish to visit the amazing churches in Italy.

Many churches impose a modesty dress code that includes covering your shoulders and knees.
.

What not to wear in Italy Churches

Visitors turned away from St Peter’s Basilica

.

If you prefer to have flexibility and be spontaneous with your sightseeing destinations, bring something light with you that you can carry in your small day bag that not only you can use to cover up while visiting your favorite churches, but also to use in the evening when the temperature cools down and a shawl or a sleeved top will take away the chill.

.

4 Bring a Portable Water Bottle

It’s very hot in Italy in the summer, so it’s important to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Buying bottled water can cost 2 Euros or more at kiosk vendors near tourist attractions. At most cafes tourist markets, you find them at about 1 Euros each. At the local supermarket about 25 cents.

Even if you buy a pack of bottled water from a local market and keep them refrigerated in your room, you’d go through your first bottle of water by mid morning. You can either refill the same bottle of water throughout the day, or just bring a portable and refillable water bottle with you that you can reuse throughout your vacation.

Many fountains in large cities like Rome serve cold fresh natural drinking water, one of the best ways to quench your thirst in the Eternal City

You can also buy a large cold bottle of water from the market of cafe and use it to refill smaller bottles if you are traveling with family or friends.
.

.

5 A Back-up Piece of Luggage.

While many travelers travel light, when they arrive in Italy they find so many wonderful things to buy that their luggage suddenly cannot contain all their new purchases.  By bringing a light cloth duffel bag, you have enough space for your belongings and your new treasures.

And don’t forget… starting the the 2nd week of July is the much anticipated Summer Sale that hits all the major clothing, shoes, and accessories shops in Italy.  Your shopping spree just became more exciting and affordable!
